The problem with Jimny’s stock audio is that it comes with a custom head unit, manufactured by Clarion. This is the stock Jimny head unit:
While nothing’s really wrong with the unit itself, in case one wishes to upgrade it … tough luck: the plastic frame surrounding the center part of the dash is customised for the head unit. Therefore, it’s quite impossible to fit a stock 2 DIN unit without making it look bad. This is what I’m talking about:
While the chinese people from Shenzhen manufacture custom 2 DIN HUDs for a lot of cars with custom dashboard panels, still no luck for the little Jimny as it’s a very rare car … until now 🙂
It’s available on eBay here or here for 530 USD with free shipping. The unit looks fully featured too, having background GPS navigation, subwoofer support, CD changer support, DVB-T and TMC. Cool!
